This will be Mr. Dawson’s seventh year as Director of bands at NEHI. He is a trombonist and a graduate of both Florida State University (English) and University of South Florida (Music Education). He is a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, National Band Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.
While at Northeast, the bands of Northeast have continued to achieve a high level of success consistently earning Superior ratings with the Scarlet Regiment, and have reached as high as 10th with the Florida Marching Band Coalition. Concert Bands at Northeast continue to earn Excellent and above ratings from the Florida Bandmasters Association. Jazz Bands have earned Superior Ratings as have the Percussion Ensembles. The Northeast Scarlet Movement Winterguard has also excelled progressing in FFCC class to AAA.
Mr. Dawson has been very active in Public School band programs for many years, working with ensembles throughout the Southeastern United States as a clinician, staff member, consultant and drill writer. The bands he has worked with routinely received superior ratings in district festivals with some finding successes on the regional and national stage.
As a performer, Mr. Dawson spent time in Drum Corps International with Carolina Crown winning a division II world championship in 1993 and winning a division I world championship with the Blue Devils in 1997. At both Florida State University and University of South Florida he had the pleasure of being able to perform in concert and jazz ensembles, trombone choir and smaller chamber ensembles. He most recently spent time in Eisenstadt, Austria playing Trombone in the Classical Music Festival.
This will be Sierra Fontes’ third year at Northeast High School and her tenth year spinning. She has worked with many other programs in the past such as Sickles, Braden River , Brandon and East Bay High School. She has also performed with Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps as well as USF Winter Guard receiving a Silver Medal in WGI Finals. And as proud Alumni of USF Herd of Thunder Color Guard Sierra is honored to pass down everything she has learned over the years onto the Scarlet Movement.
